Woodhouse boys taken to woodshed on nat’l TV

This is too good not to share.

Dallas and Brad Woodhouse are brothers; Dallas, with dark hair, is a hard-core Republican activist; brother Brad is a passionate Democratic activist. They’re both from Raleigh, NC, both “rocked in the same rocker,” as their mother, Joyce, ruefully describes it. They fight about politics, a lot, even at family gatherings. They can’t help themselves.

Earlier today, they were bickering about politics on C-Span, which at least is a more appropriate setting. But having appeared on that show, I can tell you that it can be pretty disconcerting when they take phone calls from viewers, because you really have no idea what kind of bizarre question you might to have to field.

So then this happened:

On a related note, I’ll be taking the rest of the week off from active blogging. I’ll still be around, and will post if big news breaks, but otherwise I’m heeding Mama Woodhouse’s advice.

Ah, the humor in Bookman's writing....the Republican is "hardcore" and the democrat is "passionate"....funny.

@LeninTime I didn't find it either; I think it has been removed.  Either that or you have to read all the comments a lot more closely than I have time for.

One theory is that this is a PR ploy by SONY to stir up interest in those movies that, otherwise, would flop.

Tuna Meowt
Tuna Meowt

@straker Perhaps, but given how much obloquy Sony has received since their secret corporate docs were leaked by the hackers, I doubt it.  There have actually been several court cases filed against Sony for what some of the documents indicated, so I have a hard time believing that this is a PR stunt.

IMO, Rogen and Franco would be up for a publicity stunt, but not something like this.

This just in -- some theaters pulling "The Interview" over threats of violence.

I was planning on going to see it.  I'm even more determined to see it now.  Nobody tells me what I can and can't see; I crossed a picket line as a young man to see Monty Python's Life of Brian.

FWIW, I *hate* Sony with a passion and have ever since they were caught installing rootkits on the PCs of people who installed Sony software or played Sony CDs.  Essentially, Sony secretly made itself a back door into every PC that loaded or played their software or music for several years.  But when it comes to someone threatening violence over a freakin; MOVIE, well eff them.

I might just spring for the jumbo drink, jumbo popcorn, Milk Duds AND a hot dog when I go see that movie.

It would be wonderful to see OPEC finally get the shaft after years and years of sticking it to us.

However, the world's supply of oil is finite, and it's not clear how much longer these prices will continue to drop or how long they will stay down.

One thing IS clear.

We "little people" are good for only one thing to the oil producers, paying for the product.

@straker "It would be wonderful to see OPEC finally get the shaft after years and years of sticking it to us."

I absolutely agree.  As the oil deposits in the Middle East start playing out, it's the new petroleum finds in places like Alaska, Russia, Canada, Brazil and the north polar region that will become more and more important.

We all know this drop in oil prices is VERY temporary.

Big Business, for reasons strictly in their own interests, have allowed the prices to drop, for now.

Before long, they will shoot back up like a rocket leaving the cape.

As for Putin, all he cares about is political and military power.

@straker "Big Business, for reasons strictly in their own interests, have allowed the prices to drop, for now."

I'm not so sure.  OPEC has increasingly been beset by fractious members violating quota agreements for their own purposes.  Some industry observers think that OPEC may not exist in its current form -- or may not even exist at all -- within the next ten years.

I think what we're seeing is some sort of turf war among *traditional* oil-producing nations (like those in OPEC) who are upset about countries like the US, Brazil and Russia getting in on their act.  I'm sure prices will recover at some point, but some of the smaller players will continue to cause volatility in the market IMO.

@Tuna Meowt @straker

I don't know. It seems to me things are a little more complex. Critical here is the ultimate fate of the petrodollar system, effectively a pair of handcuffs - albeit golden ones - that the US and OPEC are jointly locked in. So I don't see them necessarily as being at cross purposes here so much.

Also for lil' Tard:

If you want to go with the nutjob conspiracy theory that Obozo orchestrated the drop in oil prices to damage his enemies, wouldn't that include domestic oil production?

Why does Obozo hate American workers?

***
Well if you could pull your empty head out of your partisan a*zz long enough to actually analyse what's going on you might notice that US capitalism, and the dollar-based global financial system it's anchored in, is in extreme crisis and is under direct threat abroad.

So blocking Russia's attempt together with the other BRICS to build an alternate payment system based on an exchange currency other than the dollar increasingly becomes a matter of survival for Washington.

So if toppling Vladimir Putin's government means sacrificing some domestic shale oil producers, that's just a cost of doing business.

To reiterate from late night, there has been talk that John Kerry's close dealings with the Saudis recently may have included a convenient little "agreement" about oi prices, with the idea in mind primarily of harming Russia.

TBS
TBS

@LeninTime @LilBarryBailout

On this issue I agree with you but I think the Saudis have a two fold strategy going.

Short term: Keep production at a high rate.  If no other major players reduce production (and for the most part they haven't) then the market is flooded and price goes down.  This serves a geo-political purpose to

inflict economic pain on Russia as well as Iran due to to their cost of extraction. Other countries and markets are feeling the pinch but Russia and Iran are really feeling it.

Long term:  The Saudis are not really looking to assist the US on this front.   Seems they are looking to have the fracking and tar sands production slowed down in both the US and Canada.

Primarily? Perhaps, but who's to say that any coordination being offered isn't to keep a lid on funding (from Saudi Arabia) of Sunni nutjobs in ISIS and elsewhere? There's the rapprochement with Iran to consider in all this too.

I agree about the countries affected. As I mentioned last night, it's striking - and awfully convenient - how this hits every last one of the governments currently in Washington's crosshairs - in addition to Syria, Iran, Russia, and even Venezuela.

As for slowing tar sands competition, that's a bonus for them.

TBS

@LeninTime @TBS @LilBarryBailout

Saudis are flexing their oil muscles.  Both the US and Saudis get a geo-politico move then the Saudis get their "bonus" in the long run.

At least that's how it appears to me when looking at the oil industry as well as the geo-political issues taking place and those issues are directly impacted by this decrease in price.

Of course events change and things don't always go as planned so we will see what transpires.

Right, that's basically how I see it.

Of course events change and things don't always go as planned so we will see what transpires.

You can say that again.

The key point is that all of these dealings are taking place in a climate of mounting crisis all around and not strength, however things might appear.

Amen to Bro's comment.

I reported it as well.  Things get heated and go too far at times (I've pushed it a time or three myself) but posting personal information is way over the line.  I highly doubt even the most infrequent bloggers are not aware that this was a definite no no.  And this was not an infrequent blogger.

I wont post the comment or the offenders name but I would ask anyone that believes this incident to be out of line to find the comment which is on this thread then contact Jay via email as well as flag the comment.

This should not be tolerated by us bloggers nor the AJC.

TBS

@CommonSenseisntCommon @TBS

That is up to Jay and the AJC to decide.

It just needs to be the last time the offender or anyone else is posting personal info.

I'd bet that person would be upset if their personal info had been posted and rightfully so.

Tuna Meowt
Tuna Meowt

@CommonSenseisntCommon @TBS IIRC, the Terms of Use give the AJC blogfathers pretty much unlimited authority with respect to deleting comments and commenters.  IMO, a permanent ban would be appropriate, but then again there's nothing stopping a banned poster from creating a new account and continuing the same sorts of shenanigans.

I guess the only sorts of comment boards where a high level of control can be exercised are those involving a paywall, like those at the WSJ and NYT,

I don't think Jay or the AJC cares.

I, however, think it's cowardly unless you are going to post your real name as well.

Looking in from last night, and I see some people are lower than ant testicles.  When you have to resort to posting people's personal identifying information, that's a line that shouldn't be crossed by anyone.  I didn't like it and flagged it when it happened to someone on the right, and I flagged and reported the incident last night.  I even took a screen capture and submitted that as well.

It's one thing to take jabs at each other, but it's something entirely different to post something that could potentially jeopardize someone's personal safety.  Call me whatever name you choose to do, but I'll do it to anyone that crosses that line here.  Furthermore, if you don't like it, tough s**t.  Chalk it up to my law enforcement mentality.

@Brosephus Either the comments must have been removed by now or else I'm scrolling by them too quickly to catch them.  At any rate, I haven't seen them, but I trust Brosephus' judgment in this sort of thing.  If he thinks it was over the line, I probably would too.

And that goes for whoever the offender and victim were.
