For GOP contenders, Mt. Hillary looks imposing

The 2016 elections are more than 21 months away — many things can and will happen between now and then. But as a measure of where the race stands today, at a moment of Republican triumphalism after the 2014 mid-terms, the latest head-to-head poll numbers courtesy of the Washington Post/ABC News say a lot:

2016pollYou could argue that Hillary’s showing is a function of high name recognition, but then again, Mitt Romney and that guy named Bush are not exactly political unknowns. In addition, the fact that she is so well known, with her laundry already strewn across the front lawn of the White House for all to see and sift through, suggests that it’s might be hard to bring those numbers down.

Of course, there’s always Benghazi.

I wonder what colored your decision to go with that clip.

Or the one before it, for that matter.

You get a chance to check out Mae Brussell?

Sorry missed this.

Haven't had a chance to look into this further, no.

But she sounds like she was asking a lot of the right questions. Especially about fascist elements inside the US. She along with a number of others.

I'll have to check her out though.

Sheetz, but LT, please hang 'round a minute.

How do you see that in the case of the Rev. Wright situation?

ooh... (deep breath here)

See, I do remember quite well where I was when I heard. But let's back up. Months earlier, "G-D America" wasn't just a top story, it was THE top political story, ran constantly on the cable news channels. It prompted Obama to give a speech about race relations that was, generally, quite well received, and that seemed to put out the fire. That point onward, complaining about Obama harboring militant black-nationalist ambitions was for the right wing fringe, not something for polite discussions that reachable voters would hear.

Several months later, I came across an item--think it was a Friday news dump, pretty sure I heard about it on a weekend because I do remember literally getting up, walking around my kitchen, muttering loud enough for my wife to hear "that @sshole. That f----- @sshole." I was angry because it seemed so unnecessary; it would only serve to give bigots a bit of ammo to say "see, he threw his Reverend under the bus!" when, IMO, he could've easily continued to lend support to a congregation that had nothing especially shameful, that I could ever see, in its past. And personally, as someone raised a liberal Christian who loved the revolutionary Brother Jesus, I was offended.

But, politically, it was a nothing story. Nobody seemed to care at the time; nobody made much mention. I still hate what he did. But I tip my cap to his political instincts.

Come on, rubes, let's hear you think.

@AyeAyeSir What a way to run the most important country in the world when it comes to fighting evil.

Explain how a country that propped up the Saudi King who was one of the most hideous tyrants in the world is "the most important country in the world when it comes to fighting evil".

@AyeAyeSir @LeninTime "the most important country in the world when it comes to fighting evil".

Because we are. I know you hate America. That is very clear.

Do we make mistakes... You betcha. In spades.

But we also defeated the Nazis and Communists making this world a much much better place.

@AyeAyeSir @LeninTime For once I agree with you.

His hatred of America blinds him to the fact sometimes there is a bigger picture that must be considered.

So the US only props up tyrants in order to fight evil?

And I don't just mean Obama or Bush. I'm talking many many years and numerous tyrants on the payroll.

The list is long and you know it is.

AyeAyeSir

Ah ................ kind of like we propped up Russia during WWII to help them help us defeat the Nazi's ?

Sometimes you take on the greater evil first when that is the only option !

Yes a start of a new friendship with the new tyrannical King of Saudi Arabia.

They are no better than Iran yet you will cry like a baby regarding that regime

If you haven't i'm going to find that extremely funny.

Trust me much of the rest of the world is not such a nice place.

On this issue you are dead wrong.  If you think propping up tyrants while condemning others is a winning hand then the US should have lead the world to peace by now

One can argue that geo-political issues are not black and white but to condone the US for these policies and basically give them a pass is just plain stupid.

Unfortunately  you are right.

If the Saudis want Democracy they should do something about it. But for now removing them isn't an option. Can you imagine the power vacuum that would leave ?

So you're conceding that we operate - or should operate - based on principles of ruthless, amoral Realpolitik.

Do you not see that this is incompatible with the claim that we are the "most important country in the world when it comes to fighting evil"?

@TBS @AyeAyeSir @LeninTime It is a long list

Thankfully we live in a fee society and can learn from those mistakes.

Guess what happens when you search for Tiananmen Square in China.

Hint : You don't see any mention of the Tiananmen Square protests.

But if you put Nazis and Communists in the same category, then you suffering from some serious ideological delusions, I'm afraid.

If that were a correct categorization, then why would we have allied with Stalinist communists to defeat Nazi Germany?

Path to the White House:
1st Black American - President Obama (2008-2016)
1st American Woman - Mrs. Hillary Clinton (2016-2024)
1st Hispanic American - (2024-2032)
1st Asian American - (2032-2040)

President Obama and the American People have changed the direction of the USA forever. No longer can the GOP rely on winning all the southern states and rally the rebels (old white people) in a few northern states and win the White House (50 year old - Southern Strategy). That racist strategy is broken beyond repair.

Did you support Mitt Romney in 2012?

Hillary Clinton is easily as far to the right as he was.

So .... sounds like she'd be to your liking too in a pinch.

@Philo_Farnsworth

I realize this comment is ancient, but I have to mention: Joe and John both got dream gigs, and have excelled in them.

They could run for President again, and who knows, they may, but they both likely feel their egos have been sufficiently fed.

@barkingfrog  I'm sure he had his fill on earth. He was probably smart enough to know that ain't no one getting virgins after their gone, but promising them is a good way to keep people in line.
