The gospel truth to get you into the weekend

When you call your backup band “the Roseland Rhythm Revue”, you embrace certain expectations about your sound and your intentions. In just about everything I’ve heard from him, Mike Farris meets and exceeds those expectations.

Have a great weekend!

Kayaker,

You really ought to check into a fiber rich diet...oh, and St. Johns Wort...they will help...

I think that the average American is starting to wake up about the true (i.e. Koch brothers) GOP agenda.  Social media is helping a lot with that (thank the Maker).  This next two years will open a lot of eyes, I'm thinking, and most Americans won't like what they see.  As long as they, the GOP, promote agendas of and for big business, anti rights for women, and barbaric immigration laws, they will lose the White House again and there will be a shift in seats in both houses of Congress.  Just an early prediction by Normd....

@Normd I really do wonder what you think the last two elections were all about.  Trounced the competition both times. Both were about Bozo and his failed policies.  You ignore the taking of the Senate and House as some kind of "didn't happen" event, like most liberals.  But it is reality, Norm.

Bozo's free community college proposal and its consequences for middle class families is a slap in the face of those who have saved for years to put their kids through college.  Many, both middle class and others have set aside money for college expenses that up to now did not tax earnings on the plan.  Now Bozo plans to tax earnings on all 529 plans to pay the 60B dollars needed to pay for this fiasco.  Nothing more than a redistribution of funds from those that are frugal enough to save to those who pick up yet another free govt benefit.  What would you expect from the liar in charge.

@kayaker71

I've socked away plenty (and plan to sock away more) in a 529, and if by some miracle this Congress passed such legislation that included free community college in exchange for paying taxes on that income, I'd support it in a heartbeat.

Skinflint, petty conservatives? Not so much, I don't imagine.

@kayaker71 Yeah Obama just needs to sit down and STFU.Who the heck does he think he is anyway?!?!  LOL

kayaker71

@Visual_Cortex @kayaker71 You might be willing to give your money away.  So be it.  However, 529s were set up to avoid taxes for middle class families..... the very families that Bozo proposes to "help" in his STOU speech. This helps no one but the free loaders.

@SFM_Scootter @kayaker71

Take careful note of how conservatives are likely to talk about the community college program in the weeks ahead.

They simply won't be able to resist race-baiting; they're bound to make it about what "our people" are having to pay so that "those people" can get free stuff, directly at "our" expense.

They'll do their best to make it sound race neutral, but right wingers really can't help themselves.

Seems to me that if I had saved all those years to put my kids through college and the Presidents free community college program was there, I'd tell my kid to go there and take the money I saved and go to Tahiti..lol

I'm pretty sure 529s were set up to avoid taxes for anyone who could take advantage of such tax breaks, not especially middle-class families. But if you have some rhetoric from the time of their passage that states otherwise I'm all ears.

Well if your kid is ok with it, and you don't mind paying taxes on it (which you'd have to do anyway if you used it for anything not associated with higher ed...)

@Visual_Cortex Danged if I know.I didn't know what the heck it was til I saw Kam's Glozellghazi and googled it.Much ado about nothing as far as I'm concerned.

Visual_Cortex
Visual_Cortex

@SFM_Scootter @Visual_Cortex

It's more than "much ado," it's a patently dishonest complaint--there's simply no reason to think that a few short appearances on some popular web-based shows had anything whatsoever to do with scheduling a meeting with a foreign leader. None.

Visual_Cortex
Visual_Cortex

@DownInAlbany @Visual_Cortex

What is "truth"ful about pretending that those web appearances somehow pre-empted scheduling any foreign leader's meeting with the President?

You're picking a really dumb battle here, and given that the wingers seem fixated on this Glozell person, one that (once again) can't help but make y'all look like a bunch of out-of-touch racists.

Oh, one other thing. I just news.googled "Glozell" and I see that the usual extremists have gone bat-crap crazy over it. Sheesh.

Cons working for American Jobs !

They said the pipeline is about U.S. jobs, yet they voted against U.S. steel and supplier jobs in the pipeline supply chain. They said the oil is for use inside the U.S., yet they voted against using the oil inside the U.S..

Significantly, they also voted against disclosing any money they are getting from oil and other companies involved in the Keystone project.

"Things must change for our government. Look at it. It isn’t too big to fail. It’s too big to succeed! It's too big to succeed, so we can afford no retreads or nothing will change with the same people and same policies that got us into the status quo. Another Latin word, status quo, and it stands for, ‘Man, the middle-class everyday Americans are really gettin’ taken for a ride.’ That's status quo, and GOP leaders, by the way, y'know the man can only ride ya when your back is bent. So strengthen it. Then the man can't ride ya, America won't be taken for a ride, because so much is at stake and we can't afford politicians playing games like nothing more is at stake than, oh, maybe just the next standing of theirs in the next election."

Alabama is indeed a cesspool of social conservatism.  But he who ignores reality does so at his own risk. Ten years ago 82% of Americans identified themselves as Christians. Today that number has fallen, at breathtaking speed, to just 72%.  Furthermore, neither gay marriage nor abortion have been identified as a Top 10 political issues for Americans at any time in the past 7 years.

 The Republican Party must recognize and acclimate to this change or they will obsolete themselves.

@Kamchak

Much as I want to believe that there's a DFH in Eastwood, I don't think it's super-controversial to say that you are "anti-war," particularly if you're someone with plenty of conservo-cred.

(recall that GHW Bush once said in a speech, "I hate war, and love peace..." actually, you probably don't recall that, it was so uncontroversial, but I happen to remember it.)

Okay, here is a mostly off topic hypothetical: If you HAD to vote for only one (no write ins,no none of the above, you go to jail if you don't vote), would it be Sarah Palin or Michael Moore?
