‘When you believe in things you don’t understand ….”

Given the calendar and the way my day started off, this seemed an appropriate song with which to end the week and bring a little heat into what promises to be a chilly weekend.

“If you believe in things that you don’t understand, then you suffer,” Stevie warns us, a statement as true of technology as it is about superstition.

(BTW, the tall girl in the middle of the backup singers is Aisha Morris, Stevie’s daughter and the inspiration for the song “Isn’t She Lovely?” As you may recall, she sang a little backup in that one too.)

Brosephus - "that's the party that is not trying to eliminate them from existence"

The very people who need unions the most are often gullible Republicans who seem to constantly vote against their own self interests.

I've never been able to understand this.

"Unions have become their own worst enemy because they do not work for their members and now work for the Democratic party. Unions do not stand a chance until they become "independent" of political parties and focus their energies on their members."

Bovine fecal matter.  Unions tend to side with the Democratic Party because that's the party that is not trying to eliminate them from existence.  Unions will not become "independent" of either party until both parties agree to allow them to exist.  If there's a demand for their services, a free market will allow them to exist without all the legislation hampering their existence.  Never mind the fact that police and fire unions tend to lean right and support Republican candidates.

It's always about The Other's perceived mental weakness when you're "inthemiddle" and trying to figure out why the left isn't doing what you'd like, isn't it?

@Brosephus  All you need to do is look at the facts. Union membership is down because the workers made it that way... Unions tend to side with the Democrats because they are so easily bought.. As far as Police and Fire Unions, prove it. They buy Democrats just as much as the next union. The demographics within a union will most likely reflect the general population, about  50 50 democrat / republican. Sitting on your ideology will do nothing to strengthen unions.

@InTheMiddle2

Union membership is down because people have been fed the mantra "Unions are bad" by people they trust. Unfortunately, that trust is sorely misplaced as the people feeding that mantra are only looking out for themselves and not the average person.

Otherwise, the decline in union membership would not correspond with the declining purchase power and job base of the middle class.

I see lots of emotions at play over one single college student this morning.  Interesting how one person can kick up so much emotion in some people.

I saw the question about PP too.  I guess the free market doesn't apply when something cherished is rejected by said market.  Then, you have to force people to accept what you want them to accept.  Obama will happen again and again as long as some people continue to feed their incessant desire to interject themselves into the private affairs of people who haven't extended such an invitation.

have to force people to accept what you want them to accept.

Yep. We have to just eat it and accept that what the military want to do, they get to do; we taxpayers don't get the kind of "choice" guys like Kyle Wingfield are always yammering about as essential for public education, to the point where they believe taxpayers should be able to re-route funding to schools they like.

Ah ............................... you need to work on your reading comprehension.

"Brown University student wants ROTC ‘criminals’ banned from campus"

And yes ............ one person can become "one president".  Look at the debacle we have now.

You admit you're not even complaining about a college's policy, you're complaining about one guy at that college (no, I haven't clicked this clickbait, I'm just reading you and K71's griping.)

Really weak stuff.

Good news is, I guess things must be going pretty well here in the USA if this is all you have to gripe about.

And you admit you didn't read or comprehend the headline I posted.

You obviously missed my other news posts but I'm so happy I kept you occupied this morning ............................. :o)

People like that student at Brown are just too smart and sophisticated for the average American to appreciate.  After all, he is Brown University educated.  That ought to be enough to cement his opinion as being right.  Liberals in general are just too informed to be lumped with other "average Americans".  I sometimes think that the air that they breathe high atop that pedestal that they mount daily is responsible for their ever present superior attitude.  Yeah, I agreed with Aye Aye.  Let him spend a little time at Marine boot camp.  Puts a little reality back into an otherwise hopeless individual.

@Numbers_R-Us:

Do you support banning ROTC from colleges campuses ?

Visual_Cortex

@AyeAyeSir

Why should anyone especially care?

If a private college doesn't want some organization plying its wares, isn't that the college's business?

Put it this way: Do you support banning Planned Parenthood from Liberty University?

AyeAyeSir

@Numbers_R_Us

Sure it's up to them ................. but I would withdraw any federal aid from that institution.

If they want to go it alone ............ so be it .............. :o)

@AyeAyeSir I support you running for office and implementing the draft once elected.  Further, it is up to the individual colleges to decide what they ban from their campuses so long as they do not violate applicable laws.  Do you support our laws?

@AyeAyeSir @Numbers_R_Us

I would withdraw any federal aid from that institution.

You think Brown University needs federal aid to function?

Thuggishly threatening a university with such stuff would probably ensure that ROTC never operated there again.

AyeAyeSir

@Visual_Cortex

No ........ they don't need it but if they (or any other university banned ROTC) they should lose it.

And that's MY OPINION !

Thank you for yours.

@AyeAyeSir @Numbers_R_Us Any institution that receives federal money typically is subject to rules that they must follow in order to keep said money and I'm ok with that.

"..When you believe in things you don't understand.." you suffer

or

What a fool believes - he sees.

while the wise man has the power - to reason away

What seems to be - is always better than nothing.

you know, I've been staring on in wide-eyed train-wreck level disbelief for years at these poor dumb walmart republicans, trolls and other assorted bootlickers - wondering wtf man? how can they be exploited, used like this system does to them, and then turn around and defend & vote for their abusers like that? I've sat here and looked out over the ocean, like I'm doing now, and thought about that several times over the last 30 years of this trickle down scam.

And I think I may have a sort of answer in these 2 classic songs.

@St_Simons_he-ne-ha  So your response to your "wonder" is to insult and insinuate. 30 years of trickle down scam?. What do you suggest as an alternative, Obviously you seem to know the answers. Please share it with the world.

Epiphany day - it's like peeling away layers on a Vidalia onion - this would also explain that insipid glorification - you could even say celebration - of ignorance that is now all the rage in that demographic.

@TomMiddleton @St_Simons_he-ne-ha @InTheMiddle2  The only ones that can bring back the unions are the workers, and over the past few decades it is the workers that have rejected the unions. Union leadership has failed the unions they represent and as a result, workers no longer want to support them. Unions have become their own worst enemy because they do not work for their members and now work for the Democratic party. Unions do not stand a chance until they become "independent" of political parties and focus their energies on their members.

@TomMiddleton @InTheMiddle2 @St_Simons_he-ne-ha  and charge an annual membership fee, and sell only in bulk. I would guess if Wal Mart starting charging an "entrance fee" and only sold in bulk and did not accept manufacturers coupons it would be easy. But how many of those that shop a Wal Mart can afford to pay an annual fee and are able to buy toilet paper ant $22 a pop.
