GOP voters more interested in vengeance than governance

carson-and-trump

Zero, and 48.

Between them, Donald Trump and Ben Carson claim zero years of governmental experience, and 48 percent of the Republican primary electorate.

More alarmingly, neither man demonstrates even the slightest intent of trying to offset that inexperience with a crash course into the issues that confront the country. “Aside from obnoxious insults, his utterances reflect a bizarre policy brew of exaggeration, fallacy and liberal convictions,” conservative blogger Jennifer Rubin notes about Trump. And as Leon Wolf notes at RedState, Carson has repeatedly proved himself “unable to answer a very basic question about United States policy, or to even be prepared to discuss the subject knowledgeably (or even conversantly).”

Yet it does not seem to matter. Both men have adopted the mindset that when you’re peddling ignorance and people are buying it as if it were gasoline at 99.9 cents a gallon, why confuse your fan base — and yourself — with actual facts or comprehension? They’ll only get in the way.

According to the latest CBS poll, 35 percent of Republican voters now say that Trump would be their party’s most electable candidate come next fall, and 80 percent say they would support him if he becomes the nominee. Just 11 percent say the most electable candidate would be Marco Rubio, and 10 percent say it’s Jeb Bush. (Among his fellow Republicans, Jeb has a 32-38 percent approval-disapproval rating, and I’m not sure there’s enough PAC money in the world to reverse that kind of number.)

More alarmingly, 83 percent of Republicans say they are very or somewhat confident in Trump’s handling of the economy; 62 percent would be very to somewhat confident in his ability to handle a major international crisis.
Just 8 percent of Republican voters say “the right experience” is the most important attribute in selecting a presidential nominee. Just 2 percent say it’s the ability to win the general election. And 53 percent of Republicans describe Trump as honest and trustworthy.

It’s just amazing. And if you start looking for a commonality between the boisterous Trump and the more withdrawn Carson — if you start looking for one explanation for their success — it would be their willingness to give voice to conservative frustration. As demonstrated in their visits to Georgia over the weekend, both men are eager and willing to stick it to the liberals, to the media, to the Chinese, to the immigrants, to the GOP establishment and to Obama. And that’s all that matters.**

“America is worth saving,” as Carson put it. “If that means getting into a war with the PC police, I’m ready to fight that war. And I hope you will join me.”

Think about that. “America is worth saving,” and what endangers it is the “PC police.” They’re not electing a president who can run the country, they’re trying to elect a president who can exact vengeance for them.

** The bizarre story arc of C.J. Pearson offers further evidence of that conclusion.

Buckeye - "shocked when people burn stores down"

Yes, because only SOME of what actually happened has been shown, but for many, that's enough to burn down stores of people who have done NOTHING to them.

BuckeyeGa

@Straker

Burning down stores is a result of pent up anger. And the people lashing out. It took stores burning down for the spotlight to be shined on whats being done.

DiA, if I'm in violation of my own policy, I'll have to do an in-school suspension I guess.

Not that I actually expected an honest answer.

@straker "tends" - look it up

It is quite often misquoted as "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

And yes, THAT is not always true

Why are these SOB's so evil?  If someone is restrained it has to be pure evil that drives you to taser them at the same time.

Graphic video obtained by NBC News shows sheriff's deputies tasing a mentally ill Georgia man in the groin while he was restrained in a chair.  Two Georgia sheriff's deputies and a health care worker are currently being tried for involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of 22-year-old Matthew Ajibade, who died after being taken into police custody on New Year's Day.

@GaBlue @StraightNoChaser That's true, but it's a revolving door...some people would never tap that evil side of them if they were not in a position to do so.

Tell me again who is "mentally ill" in this scenario?

Miller just bought out Budweiser and Playboy magazine is moving away from female nudity to include more articles.

Thanks, Obama.

Hedley_Lammar

@YouLibs The article riffs on a recent study by marketing researchersZoë Chance and Michael Norton, who asked male students to choose between two specially created sports magazines.

One had more articles, but the other featured more sports. When a participant was asked to rate a magazine, one of two magazines happened to be a special swimsuit issue, featuring beautiful women in bikinis.

When the swimsuit issue was the magazine with more articles, the guys said they valued having more articles to read and chose that one. When the bikini babes appeared in the publication with more sports, they said wider coverage was more important and chose that issue.

@fiftythreepercenter

What a master at missing the point you are...

If there were no criminals doing the hiring, there would be no criminals seeking the jobs.

I still say the problem would be solved in a few days if the EMPLOYERS were rounded up, frog marched in jumpsuits on teevee, kept in some sort of outdoor pen until trial, tried, convicted and all their stuff auctioned off, there would be NO illegal immigration into the United States again.

Our rather silly and not so intelligent RWers love to make claims about "free stuff", I wonder why they never question the "free stuff" they have been promised.  A new wall that will cost billions, all FREE because Donnie will get Mexico to pay.  Massive deportation, massive increases in military spending and more all paid for FREE because Donnie will find "waste" in government magically.

@KUTGF And, yet, you provide not one shred of evidence to dispute the claims.

Funny how THAT happens.

The evidence is in front of us and we do nothing.

All it would take is a minor sleuth to browse government records to identify millions of illegal immigrants ripe for deportation, but the politicians on the Left state it's impossible to identify and deal with so many.

Likewise, but somewhat Constitutionally challenged, is the Bernie Sanders supporters.  They openly want to transform the country to socialism.

They are either the dumbest lot ever assembled or a severe threat the Liberty.

The problem is, the other Democrat voters are not that far behind the Sanders group.

But yet it never happens

Why ? Because many many people profit from that cheap labor. The immigrants aren't the criminals

The people who employ them are. If anyone really wanted to curb illegal immigration they would target the employers. MUCH easier to do. But Republicans would prefer to keep the system we have now. Millions of undocumented workers, basically slaves, without any path to citizenship or benefits from the Govt ala Social Security. It works just fine for them the way things are. They aim to keep it that way.

no, he says, we - the citizens of the 'greatest nation on earth' (tm) - should work to ensure that our fellow citizens have access to higher education (in theory to get better jobs in the global marketplace and, thereby, improve their lot in life and in doing so the lots of others around them) and access to healthcare (like most industrialize, and even some not so industrialized, countries in the world).
