Hillary Clinton gets the night she needed

If Joe Biden was sitting at home last night, watching the Democratic debate in hopes of seeing a reason to join the race, he didn’t get it. He got quite the opposite.

He saw a strong, confident, even personable performance by frontrunner Hillary Clinton.  He saw a candidate adept at both covering her weaknesses and at magnifying her strengths, although to be honest Clinton wasn’t exactly pressed hard by her opponents. She needed the debate to regain the offensive, to talk to America about something other than her email server and to silence the doubters within her own party, and she more than met those goals. She still doesn’t have the political skills of her husband — few do — but last night she came closer to that mark than I thought possible.

Overall, Biden and the rest of America also saw a serious, well-informed discussion of the issues, rather than a contest to see who could repeat the party line most strenuously. They saw a field of five candidates, only two of whom are running serious campaigns, nonetheless draw important contrasts with their Republican counterparts on gun control, foreign policy, kitchen-table economics and frankly on their basic grasp of reality.

And they did NOT see a party obsessed with its resentments and filled with anger, grasping at every chance to lash out at enemies both foreign and domestic, and both real and imagined.

She reminded me of the quote from Groucho Marx - "Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others."

Jay, the only reason so many people are pretending that she "won" the debate is because:
1.  She didn't blow up, and let everyone see the REAL Hillary.

2.  The other candidates didn't attack her real weaknesses:  All the lying and flip-flops.

We really need Joe Biden to get in the race.  I love Bernie Sanders, but I just don't think he can win a general election.

Hillary saw a  right wing conspiracy in Monica's blue dress. She has hired the top conservative  PR person to do exactly what she claims was done to her while randy Billl was getting torn apart. She lives and breathes right wing conspiracy and has no intention of compromising.  Republicans with their  shenanigans in Congress and  with extreme right wing anarchists now in control have played right into her script.. This only makes Trump and Carson who are nonconspirators and outsiders look acceptable .

Hillary's best line - "I am an outsider because I am a woman."

What was she when she was Senator and Secretary of State? A potted plant????

All I heard saw was a competition to see who could give away the most free candy.

That would make it easier to dismiss these candidates. I saw in general a debate on practical solutions to real world problems our nation is facing. Departing all illegal immigrants and repealing Obama care are not  practical solutions.

Republicans will eventually settle on Jeb like they did with Romney and McCain in the hope that they will get out a few of their non-batshyte crazy base to vote.

So which of the Republican contestants will their base pick to go against Hillary.  They could always go with that Fiorina.

@Numbers_R_Us The Fact Check people would love Fiorina to run. Lots of stuff to correct. And anyone who thinks Hillary is a liar would have a good reality check. If they could recognize reality when they saw it.

I see Republican's are very grouchy this morning after last nights debate because it is clear that the GOP circus train will once again be bringing 15 bloviating idiots to town for entertainment purposes only for the next GOP debate.  Hey being a clown is hard but someone has to do it.

@td1234 Two years is not recently? I'm 53, so it is to me. Glad you're taking notes like a good student. Also, the Georgia election was last year, not two years ago. Write that down, because it'll be on the test.

Is that because of what Rush, Glen and Sean told you?

Okay, as suggested, I've done some research on Chaffee.

A VERY liberal Republican based on what I've read. The only controversy I've been able to find centers around Rhode Island's state house Christmas tree. He referred to it as a Holiday Tree.

He sure reads like someone liberals would go for, unless, of course, scandal is essential in a dem candidate.

He came off as kinda goofy last night, but then good people with nothing to hide often are.

@FIGMO2 Actually, he is just a Republican, fIGS.  He is not a crazy RINO.  And scandal? Puhleeeze! Cons have a virtual monopoly on that.

fIGS/!!??!!

Is ^^^ that you, Tuna?

I was just following our leftist's suggestion.

Cons have a virtual monopoly on scandal?

Sure seems like Hillary's embroiled in one of her own making.

It's not so much about a sense of humor.....

It's more about being smart enough to not say stupid things and anticipating such stupidity as being used against you that makes it disappointing if not disturbing

My wife and I sat down late last night and faced a decision - do we watch the Democrat Presidential "debate"? Simple answer - NO. We already understand very clearly who and what they are.

So we all are to assume you watch the republican debates with an open and fair mind and do not watch with any preconceived notions? Racist!, Sexist!

KUTGF
KUTGF

@TetoLeo Sweetie, I did watch them.  Now here's a tip...go back and check the original post to which I replied to.  See where the poster said they did not watch because they "already understand".  See how you failed and fell flat on your face.

TetoLeo

@KUTGF @TetoLeo

1st why refer to me as sweetie?  Do you know me?

I did read that, and I altered it and asked did you watch them with an open mind.  See implying I felt you watched them, but was curious as if you did so with out any preconceived notions about them.

Reading comprehension and the ability to follow along and not stay stuck on any one moment in time will allow you to be able to prevent falling on your face while attempting to ridicule others by claiming they fell flat on their face.

So again did you watch the republican debates without any preconceived notions and approach them with an open mind?  Based upon what I read here daily I highly doubt that.

If you did not then you are really no better than DawgDadII, as you both already felt you knew all you needed to.  He didn't watch and you watched but already had your mind made up?  See not a big difference for logically thinking adults sourpatch!
