(and don’t forget Wynonna)

It’s been a while since we heard from her … a few things have changed.

And here I was expecting to see the Primus video for "Winona's Big Brown Beaver".

My wife and I were courting during these years. We were both subbing from the same builder and started carpooling together between Helen and Athens.

Twenty-seven and a half years later we're like high school kids. I love her so much and I remember how much we enjoyed the good country stations we listened to in those days as we drove back and forth.

Never was a fan, but I liked that song.  They were on the forefront of commercial country music going to total crap.  Blue nose won't let me link the song because of the title, but Robbie Fulks states it well:

Hey, this ain't country-western!

It's just soft-rock feminist crap!

And I thought they'd struck bottom back in the days of Ronnie Milsap

Now they can't stop the flood of a__holes: there ain't a big enough ASCAP.

I hadn't scrolled back very far and didn't know you had posted this already.

It just shows what broad appeal their music has.  I recognize star quality and they have it. Ashley, too.

Talented musicians and their song writing was better than the Nashville song writing factory, but it`s the hair spray that draws the line for me.

The first time, in Jr High I think, that I ran my hand through some hair sprayed hair, I changed my dating priorities bar.

No hair spray, not much Chanel # 5, and 1/2 a brain. I was very liberal with the 1/2 a brain rule.

One interesting thing to me about Maurice White is that he was well into his mid-late 30s before EWF really took off, an age when many musicians' creativity starts drying up.  He was just going into overdrive.  His bio is very interesting, his music career starting in the early 60s as a drummer for Chess records.  He later went on to produce songs for many well-known artists including Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Deniece Williams and the Emotions.

One of my very favorite Maurice songs, one which shows off his vocal range well:

I saw EWF a couple of times in the 90s, unfortunately after Maurice had to retire from touring due to the effects of Parkinson's disease.  He did offer a video greeting at one of the shows.

One of the shows was at Chastain, with the O'Jay's and the Isley Bros on the bill.  The Isleys took it that night with Ron showing out as "Mr Big".

The phrase "soundtrack of my life" is so overused, but anyone who was a teenager in the 70s had to have EWF on the turntable.  I always thought this one was cool due to the interesting song structure:

@TBS Had to go back and listen to those early albums after I "discovered" EWF. Now some of my favorites.

Well long drive ahead and then I guess I will regress to teenage years and go to my room , put on my headphones and jam to EWF (minus the Boone's Farm and Thai Stick , of course) .

Check back later.

Slow jam....

These dudes had such a catalog of awesome music.

What a treat they have been to their fans for so many years.

I remember when I first heard them as a kid.  One of my buddy's older brother and sister used to have them playing all the time when I would go over to their house.

Like Bowie, so many of their songs are memory markers for certain times and places in my life. This one was playing when I sneaked  into my first  nightclub (well just walked in, they didn't really care too much about underage back then). Remember like it was yesterday.

@TBS @rivercard You too. I remember you used to post one great tune after another. Sad to see the crowd has dropped off, but I usually check in and find a gem or two.

Great song.  I'm not on FNM much as I used to be (nor is everyone else)

Cool to see you on.

Bruno comes on and posts some good ones.

Jam was back for awhile but he has tapered off again.

Probably wont ever get that vibe back that it had for a few years but like you said there is still a gem or two to hear.
