SEC primary: ‘It’s the end of the world as we know it …’?

Elephant Parade

A lot of bad things are being said about the Republican Party these days … mainly by Republicans.

From Bret Stephens at the Wall Street Journal:

“It would be terrible to think that the left was right about the right all these years. Nativist bigotries must not be allowed to become the animating spirit of the Republican Party. If Donald Trump becomes the candidate, he will not win the presidency, but he will help vindicate the left’s ugly indictment. It will be left to decent conservatives to pick up the pieces—and what’s left of the party.”

From talk-show host Michael Reagan:

From neocon scholar and lifelong Republican Max Boot:

“Do you believe in the open and inclusive party of Ronald Reagan? Or do you want a bigoted and extremist party in the image of Donald Trump? I have been a Republican my entire life, but I will never support Trump. If voters nominate him, they will confirm everything bad that Democrats have ever said about the GOP.  A Trump nomination will splinter the party, sully its good name — and increase the risk that a dangerous demagogue will assume the most powerful position in the world.”

From Joe Scarborough, host of “Morning Joe”:

“The day I hung up on Donald Trump, I asked on air, “Is this what Germany looked like in 1933?” Later, I warned Republicans that Trump’s rhetoric could lead to a brokered convention where “the party will kill itself.” But it looks like I overestimated primary voters in the early GOP contests. A brokered convention is now just the fantasy of Republican elites and Marco Rubio fans. The harsher reality is that the next GOP nominee will be a man who refused to condemn the Ku Klux Klan and one of its most infamous grand wizards when telling the ugly truth wouldn’t have cost him a single vote.

So is this how the party of Abraham Lincoln dies?”

Sing it boys!

The End of the World should be Trump's theme song!

I don't think REMwould agree to that.

They have absolutely no problem getting into and reading Hilary's classified emails, but can't get into the cell phone of a rogue street criminal?

@JamVet LMFAO.  I knew we could conjure up the Spirit of Jam with inspiration like Trump on the table.  He'll make you forget all about Nixon and Bush before it's over, buddy.

One question that hasn't been answered to my satisfaction is why is Trump running for President in the first place??  Obviously it's a power grab, but is his motivation ultimately altruistic, does he just want to see a better country as he says??  Is he trying to reduce taxes for the rich??  Anyone have a clue??

The Newt just gave Donald Trump the nomination.

Wow, Republican turnouts were huge. Wonder if they will stay that way.

@Jhunt163 As some others have said, Trump is mirroring Obama in 2008 by drawing in otherwise uninvolved voters.

@Bruno2 I have been saying that for a few months now. I also have said that Trump will carry pick up large numbers of Mid Western blue collar working whites in NY, PA, OH, MI and WI.

@td1234 @Bruno2 Although those states tend to lean Dem, they can easily switch to Repub.  Obama's anti-coal policies have hurt the mining industry.

Yeah. My mother was telling me about over in Bham that a lot of coal miners in the west area have been let go and that the industry is largely shutting down over there. But then Bama was already R.

@Doom Classical liberal @td1234 @Bruno2 When it comes down to it, the color green is the most important color to most people.  I can see a lot of people trusting Trump to pump up the economy with good jobs vs tax-and-spend Hillary.

@CherokeeCounty Probably not but you can be assured that if Trump is making Hillary spend money in NY and close the margins in NY then he is winning some of the other states mentioned.

Seems I've heard more and more of that lately with the populism working with many a blue collar white. The most interesting thing I've heard in the news is about more black blue collar voters showing up to support Trump.

Still waiting on some good suggestions for Trump's running mate and campaign song.  As far as a running mate, I think he should recruit Kasich.  As for song, maybe JamVet has some more suggestions.  How about it, Jam??  What would you suggest for the Trumpster??

@Bruno2

I've been thinking and hoping Kasich. But I think he picks Christie given their friendship going back years and years.

Bruno2

@Doom Classical liberal @Bruno2  Lots of reasons NOT to pick Christie, primarily because he and Trump already drew from the same supporters.  You need some diversity geographically as well.

Kasich would bring some much needed government experience to balance the ticket.

I agree with all that. But is Trump listening? Heard an interesting stat the other day. No R has won the presidency in forever it seems without winning Ohio. Kasich I think could help him carry Ohio and possibly some neighboring blue states like PA and Michigan.

So far Rubio has 11% of the delegates. He won.  He won.  Bring out the Champagne.

@rimsky Rubio needs to get out, let Cruz battle Trump, but he won't do it till he is defeated in Fla.

@gotalife Reposting here a reply I made to those commenting how "presidential" Trump sounded in his victory speech:

I didn't hear his whole speech, just a snippet or two about something he plans to get the Gulf States to pay for.  My reaction:  what a comedian!  How's he gonna force any other sovereign nation to pay for anything, whether it's a wall between the US and Mexico or whatever bloviating nonsense he was spewing about regarding the Gulf States??

Doom Classical liberal

@Here's_to_Blue @gotalife

Really he doesn't have to use any force. Other ways to do it. One way is to charge a substantial surcharge on money being wired to Mexico from the U.S. This idea was floated before but failed. If Trump wins you can probably expect it to come  up again. Lotta money being wired to Mexico from here. A 10% surcharge brings in a whole lotta dough.

Since trump never took a position, cruz just made them up for him.

Fact Trump has so far got about 60% of the delegates.  Poor GOP is in big trouble and they are desperate.

td1234

@rimsky Yes, the Globalist and the Neo cons are trying everything they can to stop Trump because he is the winner today but would do the exact same thing to stop Cruz.

Bruno2

@td1234 @rimsky I think when faced with the stark reality that Trump is the popular choice, the Repubs will kiss and make up with him.  Trump will accept some direction from them and will tone it down.  In return, they won't trash him or run another candidate.
