Clinton’s nomination a historic moment for the nation

Congratulations to Hillary Clinton for clinching the 2016 Democratic nomination to be president of the United States of America.

Primary voters in California, New Jersey and other states will still be going to the polls today, but as the Associated Press notes, as of today Clinton has already compiled more than enough delegates needed to become the nominee. She also leads by significant margins in the number of earned delegates and total votes cast, and today’s results can merely pad her final delegate count.

After a quarter century in the often harsh national spotlight, Clinton is admittedly a controversial figure. But like her or not, her triumph is more than personal or political; it is historic. Almost a century after women in this country were given the right to vote, overcoming arguments that “the weaker sex” were not intellectually or emotionally equipped for the demanding world of politics, she becomes the first American woman to win the presidential nomination of either major political party.

The famous warning issued by future First Lady Abigail Adams at the moment of our nation’s founding — “If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation”– has come a step closer to fruition.

In Washington, President Obama — himself a sign of our national promise kept — and Vice President Biden are reportedly ready to publicly endorse Clinton as the nominee and to mark the important moment, with Obama also eager to begin uniting the party behind his former secretary of state. Given the tone to date, the battle ahead will not be for the faint of heart.

Of course, none of this is pleasant news for Sen. Bernie Sanders and his supporters. For weeks now they have claimed some theoretical means by which they could still compete for and win the nomination, but with each passing Tuesday, that theory became more and more unlikely. After a long, hard campaign that achieved far more than most believed possible and forced important issues onto the national stage, the end has come.

That brings deep disappointment and a form of grief, as Clinton herself can attest from her painful loss eight years ago. It’s hard to surrender a dream that once had seemed attainable.

But the voters have had their say, and their decision has to be respected. The leading players in the cast for November are now set.

Everything is men v women, black v white and rich v poor. Sorry I'm not looking for government to support me, raise me and define me.

We are in a very very sad place America. Kudos to the team that created a very well choreograph speech that even sounded good coming from a presidential candidate that's under intense investigation by over 150 dedicated non partisan FBI agents. Watching that play out last night made me very sad for our nation. To see this woman in prison and justice served I truly believe would begin a much needed trust in our system and a healing process for Americans that have just grown weary and fed up with the insider elite corruption that has been selling us off to a globalist agenda for so long now

Hillary Clinton is going to become our next president.  She is not, and has never been, a criminal nor has she committed any crime.  She is not under investigation for illegal activity of any sort.  Just as Bernie supporters--some of them--claim that she won because the system was rigged against him, there will be some who hate her so much they hang on to the lies made about her.  Hillary Clinton is the most honest of all the presidential contenders, as proven by multiple fact-checkers.  It is Donald Trump who is a serial liar.  According to fact checkers he lies nearly all of the time--around 70% of what he says is a lie.  Hillary is the most well respected woman in the world.  And that scares a lot of people, including those who spread these lies about her.

Historic in terms of how deep on the take she is.

History! The first time a person who is under a criminal investigation by the FBI is a political parties' nominee! Yay for ethics!

Hillary Clinton is not under investigation by the FBI.  She has not been accused of any crime and not committed any.  She is a woman in power and there has been a massive campaign to discredit her, including claiming she is a criminal.  She is not perfect and has made some mistakes, but she has committed no crime.  To imply that she is, is itself a lie.

Just what we need. Another "historical election." I wonder if the nation can survive another one. The first one brought us an unqualified and inexperienced president, and after 7 plus years, America is still stuck in the mud economically, and has also become the world's door mat in foreign policly. And don't give me all the blah, blah, blah unemployment statistics. Over 20 million less people are in the work force.

Yes. Hillary is "qualified" despite the fact that her record as a Senator (used the office to promote the Clinton Foundation and herself and did little else), and despite her dismal performance as Secretary of State.

But she disqualified herself when, doing what the Clintons did, have done, and will always do, she put her own personal political interests and prospects above the interests of America while she was Secretary of State. She is a liar, and so is her husband, and they are good at it. She has no business being President of the United States.

Her temperament is also questionable, and it appears there may be some "tell all" stuff coming out about that from a former Secret Service agent (not the first to blab). The Secret Service despised the Clintons and how they conducted themselves, and for good reason.

The bottom line is this. We have over 300 million citizens in the USA. And these are the best two choices we've got? We are truly screwed.

Hillary Clinton is not "pro abortion;" she is pro-choice, as are most Americans.  She is not "anti-gun;" she is for sensible gun regulations, as are most Americans, including most gun owners.  I have no idea what it means to be "pro-welfare," or "pro illegals," but I would bet that is also stretching the truth.  Her platform is the platform of the Democratic Party & she did best in the states that are most representative of the Democratic Party.  She is a rock solid Democrat, & for now, that means she represents the interests of most Americans.  For those who wager money on elections, she has about 3 chances in 4 of winning the general election.  She has received endorsements from nearly all the Democrats in Congress & 19 of 21 Democratic Governors.  In national polls, she is leading Donald & has been all along.

Not really.  Hillary Clinton has always been a Progressive, and about as Left as one can be, according to those who actually know what they are talking about.  Bill is not as Leftist as Hillary, though.

I'm impressed, a women facing indictment by the FBI can hang in there and convince her followers to vote for her even when she lied about a 9/11 attack in Benghazi, pretty amazing!

CASmith01

Hillary Clinton is not facing indictment from the FBI & she has been investigated 8 times for Benghazi.  She remains innocent of any allegations.  She remains the most honest of all the presidential contenders, especially Donald, who lies about 70% of the time.  Hillary is the most respected woman in the world, in spite of a 25 year billion dollar hate campaign against her.  That is amazing.  Her strength of character is amazing.

Like her? Hell no! A liar, a Wall Street corporate shill, someone who will say absolutely ANYTHING to get elected. Her "triumph", like Trump's, will still direct us onto the wrong direction. I'll be feeling the Bern all the way to the Convention.

Well, getting the votes of 15 million people does not mean Hillary "stole" the election!  She won more delegates, she won more states, and she won the popular vote.  Bernie lost.  Hillary won.  She has been winning all along.  And she will win in November, according to everyone who studies these things.
