The Trump betrayal that we all knew was coming

ap_616714173584-1

When asked about how he would deal with the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants already here in the United States, Donald Trump has always had one simple, blunt, crowd-pleasing answer:

“They have to go. They have to go.”

When opponents such as Jeb Bush argued that mass deportation was inhumane, Trump scoffed at them as “so weak.” When he was told that it was impractical to try to ferret out and uproot so many people, he brought up Operation Wetback, the attempted mass deportation back in the ’50s, as a model that he would emulate.

Remember his campaign announcement?

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. … They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people. But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we’re getting. And it only makes common sense. It only makes common sense. They’re sending us not the right people.”

No longer. Down in the polls and his bigotry hanging around his neck like an albatross, he now talks of all the great people, good, hard-working people from Mexico. In a town-hall meeting in Texas last night, with fan boy Sean Hannity at his side, Trump channeled Jeb Bush himself in describing his new approach to illegal immigrants:

“They’ll pay back taxes. They have to pay taxes, there’s no amnesty, as such, there’s no amnesty, but we work with them. Now, everybody agrees we get the bad ones out. But when I go through and I meet thousands and thousands of people on this subject, and I’ve had very strong people come up to me, really great, great people come up to me, and they’ve said, ‘Mr. Trump, I love you, but to take a person who’s been here for 15 or 20 years and throw them and their family out, it’s so tough, Mr. Trump,’ I have it all the time! It’s a very, very hard thing.”

That’s not amnesty, insists Trump, yet it is certainly amnesty as he and others have defined it and derided it for the past few years. Suddenly he wants to focus on deporting the criminals, just as Obama has done, while giving legal status to “the good ones” so they can stay here, just as Obama has tried to do.

“What people don’t know is that Obama got tremendous numbers of people out of the country,” Trump explained Monday. “Bush, the same thing. Lots of people were brought out of the country with the existing laws. Well, I’m going to do the same thing.”

The payment of back taxes as the price of legalization is also right out of the Obama approach and the plan pushed by Marco Rubio and the rest of the Gang of Eight.  And the man who a year ago was arguing that children born here to illegal immigrants were not U.S. citizens and ought to be booted back to where they didn’t come from is now suddenly expressing deep sympathy for those who have been here 15 or 20 years and have built families and lives here.

I guess you could applaud Trump for his change of heart, but that implies the existence of a heart in the first place. This position is no more sincerely held than his previous position. This is the act of a soulless grifter who knows the con is falling apart just short of the payoff, and who is desperately shifting stories in an attempt to patch it together.

And it’s interesting. At the virulently anti-immigrant Breitbart.com, where Trump’s new campaign CEO used to preside, you have to search hard to find any mention of Trump’s monumental betrayal. There’s no mention at all on Drudge. It’s as if it never really happened, as if they don’t believe for a moment that this “new Trump”is for real.

Well, I don’t believe it either.

If Trump was a Nazi in the 1930's he would fit right in. He is German, his true name was Frumpf and he loves reading Hitler speeches so much he keeps one of Hitlers books at his bedside according to his ex wife.  His followers are as true believers in  his non- sense as those gullible Germans (and some Americans ) who believed in Hitler.

I don't know if I really saw coming this Trump dump of his previous positions.  But I find his current crocodile tears over broken families as just as false as his previous crocodile tears over all the "harm" done in loss of jobs and crimes against innocents that he shed when maligning the immigrants who have come here.  He never cared either way - all he is looking for is a tool he can use to get in the White House.  And what he wants in getting there is all for himself.

Typical Bookman column, scream racism find and twist Trumps words while trying to avoid the fact that HRC is crime a day candidate that could end up in handcuffs by election day.  Trump has many faults but voting for Hillary is a full fledged endorsement for lying, cheating and government for sale.

@Airdale @DerekGator :  FBI Director and the Associated Press are not the Republican Party, where there is smoke there has to be a fire.  I freely admit that Trump is a very flawed candidate, if you can't admit that your candidate has lied under oath and that her state department duties were influenced by Clinton Foundation Donors, you are not capable of a rational discussion.

STHornet1990
STHornet1990

@DerekGator @Airdale You would certainly know about not being capable of a rational discussion. That very Director of the FBI is a staunch republican supporter who to this day contributes to that party. And yet he could not bring himself to LIE to the public about any law that she broke or any lie that she had told during her interviews with the FBI.

Your losing. You've lost before. And now you need to get on with the future of this country. Trump is not it

Airdale

@DerekGator How do we know that Hillary has done all these bad things? The Republican party has told us, and told us, and told us.  They operate on the idea that if you tell a lie often enough some people will begin to believe it.  However, it is obvious that they are veracity challenged.  Look at all the arrests and convictions that have not happened.

Note to self:  Careful of word choice.  I started to say the Republican party operates on the principle of repeating lies.  That would be wrong.  The Republican party has no principles.  Too bad.

Cobbian

@DerekGator @Airdale In this case it looks like all the smoke is that coming out of the fog of the Republicans desperate to find something they can pin on Hillary after years of investigation.  The smoke is coming from their pathetic attempts to make everyone think there is something there when there isn't.

What crimes has HRC been charged with? Has this been a trail? Has she been convicted ? If none of that is true, you are filled with Republican lies. Sad for you.

Well, Hillary is giving a speech trying to paint Trump as a racist.

She has now switched to him being fit to make national security decisions.

That's a laugh.

She can't keep secrets in a secret place,

and the results of her foreign policy decisions has the middle east in shambles with tens of thousands dead.

Yep, Hillary has clearly adapted the Obama strategy.

If you say a lie often enough, it will become the truth.

NWGAL

@JohnnyReb Trump has a history of blocking African Americans from moving into  his units. His comments about the Indiana judge with Hispanic heritage were very clear. Hard to call him anything other than racist.

@HDB0329 So Trump speaks to blacks as he would any other race, telling them vote for Trump, what have you go to lose, and Blow declares it bigotry.

No wonder the racial divide widens.

What BS.

Is there some special way Trump needs to stand, hold his mouth, face NW, or what ever when he speaks to blacks so that it doesn't offend them?

Linda Rhonstadt!

JohnnyReb

@Paul42 @JohnnyReb Trump was repeating what many including news media and black leaders have stated about blacks.

Are the statements false?

Paul42

@JohnnyReb

Ever heard him talk to white people like ""You live in your poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed. What the hell do you have to lose?"?

Nope.  That's what he says to a white audience about blacks.

Before you give a predictable answer, you might want to consider what someone who's familiar with the issue had to say about it:

HDB0329

@JohnnyReb @HDB0329 ....Trump wasn't talking TO black people...he was talking AT black people...but TO white women who don't want to vote for a RACIST!! With Trump's HISTORY, that fact is clearly evident!!

@JohnnyReb @HDB0329 In FORTY years of running over 300 business entities within the Trump Organization , would be Emperor Donald the Worst has NEVER hired a Latino, Asian , Black , Hindu , Sikh, Buddhist,, Muslim , or ANYONE else that is NOT a  White Christian , Jew, Or Catholic, as a key important executive with strategic decision making authority affecting the bottom line of any of his companies.   A key executive would be anyone with the title of General Manager or Vice President, making a minimum salary of $ 100,000 and above , with bonuses and/or commissions.

Donald refuses to hire ANY executives from a minority ethnic or Religious group. The economic " council " of advisors he just named was ALL white !! Just like all of the executives he has hired over 40 damn years. And he would continue to discriminate as the bigot he is , if he should ever be P.O.T.U.S. God forbid !!

Donald is a racist, bigoted white man who HATES anyone who is not White. He will LOSE the election because Thank God there are NOT enough other racists left in America to get him elected .

Being a stubborn old thing, I will simply point out re. Elgrunir that all we really know about him is what he has told us. And he does seem to ladle out the sad, sad events following him....that we only know about on his say-so.

And if you have the patience to scroll on down the comments on the "Hillary's health" thread, you'll see that Godless Heathen never called him names or "dregs of the earth," but only pointed out that Elgrunir is an anonymous blogger who could be running the same stories on many different blogs to get $$. We just cannot know.

And now I'll just get out of the way of the outraged bullets and arrows, thank you very much. I couldn't stay quiet.

@stefpe @OriginalProf

GoFundMe sites can net a whole lot of $$, especially if cited on many blogs. Seems pretty easy to post pathetic details, write limericks about all the regular posters, and post nasties about Trump....for an hour or two a day. On the previous GoFundMe, the site listed the actual name of the recipient and his location. Not going to give either here.Google can reveal much. If there is a second GoFundMe, check him out.

@OriginalProf @stefpe Again: El was talked into setting the whole thing up, he didn't get that much out of it (I know because the amount was visible on the site) and, finally, he took it down after a few days.

Just let it go. Thanks.

@OriginalProf @stefpe

Were you asked to donate?

Is it your business if someone else donates?

Did your limerick imply that El asked for money or did I read it incorrectly?

I let if go yesterday but not today.

OriginalProf

@gotalife @OriginalProf

To tell you the truth, it would be a lot easier to be quiet about this. (Look at the sputters from bloggers I admire!) But on this blog there are many generous retirees...the traditional group that gives out $$ because of sob-stories. When I read all of his posts, including those from last year, I see the general theme of "pity me." I am skeptical that he is really down. I have known the homeless, some who live in missions. They wouldn't post all their sad personal details like this.

In Atlanta, many of the apparent "homeless" turn out to be the poor who live close to downtown....The truly homeless are quiet about it.

My only motive is to suggest that this is an anonymous public blog, and Caveat Emptor. And now I will retreat to my tornado storm cellar.  Bye, all.

@stefpe @OriginalProf

Even if that is the case if someone didn't donate then they weren't scammed.

I think it was implied yesterday that he asked but I could be wrong and that is my mistake.  But he didn't ask for a damn thing.

As I stated below... A few bloggers tried to help the man out. If he wasted the money it shouldn't be any skin off of OP's nose or anyone else for that matter.

@OriginalProf @gotalife

I'd bet most who gave aren't retirees.  I'm not and the person who made the suggestion is not one either.

Speak until your heart is content but I'm going to reply accordingly.

I also live in town.  You  aren't the only one who encounters homeless people and even con artists.

Just don't give and be done with it.  Or don't be done and we can both continue

@OriginalProf @TBS

Dear OriginalProf,

Now that I’ve seen your thoughts firsthand, I have a response:

1.I never asked for anything and had to be pushed continually for what others have said is a small amount.Would you like me to send you the receipt for the brake work?Would you like to talk to the mechanics who’ve known I’ve been homeless for a while?

2.What’s with the “we don’t know, we don’t know?”Come on out.I’ll meet you or anyone you send in Los Angeles or San Diego.Send someone in the next hour, for all I care, and off we go.Be better than just sitting back and dealing with conjecture.

3.Are you willing to sign a(n) NDA with financial penalties?We can exchange personal information via e-mail through Jay; then you can about to verifying plenty of what I’ve said before any further get-together with you or your agent.

4.“Pity me?”I expect better from a professor.You don’t know jack about tone and purpose, at least in this case.When others ask for details or have a rather incomplete picture (see: Godless Heathen), I’m going to stand up for myself, whether you instead change that to “pity me” to fit your narrative.

5. Bring it.And when I mean “it,” I don’t mean crap word bombs.I mean effort.Put up, or shut up.

If you think he is a scam artist then tell him.

Your passive aggressiveness is weak

Say your peace to the man and be done

All the other bs is just that... bs

Comment as you see fit but if you can't directly tell him I'm going to be calling you out each time you come to the table with this issue

@OriginalProf @TBS  I "liked" your comment because I'm giving you a chance to expose me, and your statement of "many" donors giving $100 is laughably wrong.

And no one asked you to donate a dime.  Simple as that.  Wasn't something you wanted to do and you didn't. No big deal.

If you think he is a scam artist then say it

Enough with the passive aggressive bs and beating around the bush

@TBS

I'm sure not commenting on this again...if all of you believe all that Elgrunir says, then there's no point in my doing so. But SkyDog hit it when he talked about street smarts. I grew up in a rough NY neighborhood, and have known some rough characters here in Atlanta. The details here don't seem to add up...Caveat Emptor (Latin for "buyer beware") is what I hear my inner voice saying.

And now I really do bid you gentlemen (any ladies?) adieu.

TBS
TBS

Tell him yourself

All that beating around the bush is tiresome

Why won't you tell him directly?

Weak weak weak

If you read my comment earlier, which I know you did because that's why you couldn't stay quiet as you said, you will see I said if he wasted the money it's on him....meaning if it was not used to sustain him at least for this brief period that amount could keep him going I won't lose any sleep.

And if you didn't donate why worry so much

Just stand up, straighten your back and tell the man you think he is a scam artist

Do it!!!

@OriginalProf

It's okay to be skeptical.  Proper, in fact.  Everyone uses their judgment and considers such factors as 'did the person initiate things, disappear after the money came' that sort of thing.

When you give a gift, you let it go.  You trust it went for the purpose you'd hoped, but still, there's no angst, no control.

When all else fails, just look at it as helping out an itinerant poet!  Rather like those guys who play instruments on the street corner.  Everybody wins.

PS.  You're still cool.  Stubborn old guys who do crotchety with flair are a rarity.
